Buddy Swimming with Room 1.

Today we had Buddy Swimming with Room 1.

First we had some fun splashing around while we waited for them to join us.

Then we practiced Push and Glide to see how far across the pool we could go.

When our buddies arrived we got into pairs,
a Room 4 child with a Room 1 child.
We had races helping our buddies across the pool with a float.

Finally we had Tug Boat races down the pool in teams of 4.

Our Third Tennis Lesson

We began our 3rd lesson with a great warm-up game.
We were put into 2 teams.
One team had to knock down all the cones, the other team had to stand them up again.
We had one minute to do this.
Then we counted how many cones were still standing.

We swapped over and had a second go.
Again we counted how many cones were still standing after one minute.
The team with the most cones left standing were the winners.
Team 1 scored 16, team 2 scored 9.

The winning team.

This week we practiced throwing and catching over the net.
using our raquet to do a forearm stroke and
throwing the ball for our partner to hit back.

Our Veggie Patch

This afternoon we went outside with Sue van Mierlo (Sophie's Mum) to plant our vegetable seedlings.
Each class has a raised garden which we made earlier in the year.
Sue showed us that some of the seeds were in strips to make them easier to plant.
First we made a long trench to lay the seeds in.

Next we lay the strip of seeds in the trench.
Finally we covered the seeds with soil.

Pumpkin Planting

 Wednesday 27th October.
Today Sophie's Mum, Sue, came into school to help us plant our pumpkin for the 'Pumpkin Growing' competition. We need to look after it really well if our class is going to win the competition.

Using Beebot.

On 16/9/10 Faye came to work with us for a second time using Beebot, a little robot that looks like a bumble bee.
In the first session we had spent time exploring what Beebot could do and how to move it. This time we had small tasks to perform.
One group had to do a sum and program Beebot to show the answer.
Another group had to program Beebot to show their initials.
We had great fun working together and are pleased that our own class Beebot has arrived and we can continue these activities in class.

ASB money wise talk.

Visit from a Super Hero!
On Friday 10 September, a visitor came from ASB bank (dressed as a  Super Hero!). He spent time with us talking about good saving habits, ways to spend and making good choices when spending.

It was great fun and we learnt a new song too:
"1-2-3-4 lots of money on the floor,
5-6-7-8 save your money it's really great!"

Watch our photostory.

Spanish Tortilla

This term we have been studying Spain.
Sophie's Grandma cooked traditional Spanish Tortilla for us all to try.

On Tuesday31st August we went over to the hall for a musical extravaganza.

We each had an african (djambe) drum to play.
It was very noisy and very exciting.
What a fabulous afternoon!
